Munster Choir Austria Tour 2023 - Video Retrospective

Описание: In June and July 2023, ninety-four exceptional MHS vocal music students embarked on a musical and cultural exchange like no other. Over three full days of festival rehearsals, mingling side-by-side with professional singers and orchestral players from a variety of backgrounds, our students presented a grand finale concert in the historic and stunning Salzburg Dom on Saturday, July 1, 2023. Our program rose to the occasion of performing a powerful concert alongside professional choirs from around the world.

During the festival and performance, our students we highly lauded for the preparation by other choirs, choir directors, and the guest conductors themselves. Hungarian Professor János Czifra, the Domkapellmeister of the Salzburger Dom and successor to W.A. Mozart led Munster High School Choirs in two performances of Mozart’s Mass in C Major, “Coronation,” KV 317, accompanied by the Salzburger Domorchester. Dr. Edith A. Copley, Regents’ Professor Emeritus from Northern Arizona University, conducted the second half of the program and was also very complimentary of the work ethic and eagerness to sing of our students.

Not only did our students perform in this truly once-in-a-lifetime collaborative experience, but Munster Choirs also presented a standalone, headlining concert in Vienna on July 3, 2023, to a sold-out audience of over four hundred Austrians. We were all so humbled and grateful for the opportunity to sing our songs in one of the most culturally rich music cities on the planet. For many of our students, this will likely be the most formative educational experience of their high school career.

The Munster High School Choral Department at Munster High School (IN) is comprised of four curricular choirs - Beginning Treble Chorus, Maverick Choir, Chamber Choir, and Chorale - and two extracurricular ensembles - SING (Tenor/Bass Voices) and SONG (Soprano/Alto Voices). These groups not only perform four major concerts during the school year, but also sing at multiple community performances, sporting events, collaborations with professional and collegiate ensembles, and at the MHS commencement each June. Programming includes a multicultural, eclectic repertoire that spans from traditional to significant contemporary works, all in their original languages. The nationally renowned program is under the direction of Mr. Luke McGinnis.
