After I installed the Zone Off Road Products 4" budget lift on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee the steering wasn't very good. I didn't have death wabble but it sure had a lot of wandering and bump steer. I took Whiskey Juliet to the alignment shop and after I had repaired the worn out suspension and steering components they aligned it the best they could but stated that since the new control arms that came in the kit didn't have any adjustment the could not dial in the caster. So, I purchased the Cruiser series adjustable upper and lower front end control arm setup from Core 4X4.
It took about a week to get it and when it came it didn't have any instructions so I called the company in within a couple of minutes they had e mailed me the installation instructions. Upon reading them, I learned that they did not include some spacers that were supposed to be with the kit. I called again and they were responsive. However, it was late Friday afternoon on my weekend off and I was unable to install the control arms. They did send the parts out that following Monday and I got them on Wednesday but I was out of town for work and then I had to work that weekend so I wasn't able to do the install for about another week.
Well these things happen and delays are to be expected especially when waiting for parts in the mail.
For the most part the kit went in as expected. The parts were well made and painted nicely and installed about the way they should have, The only real issues I had was the zerk fitting at the upper control arm to the frame on the drivers side. The fitting is inaccessible due to the design of the mounting bracket on the frame. I struggled to install the fitting after I had mounted the arm. It would probably be best if the zerk fitting was installed prior to mounting the arm. The passenger side did not have the same issues. And, even though I was able to install the zerk fitting there is no way in hell that you would be able to attach the grease gun fitting to fill that with grease! I fixed this issue by attaching a metal cutting blade to my multi-tool and cutting two side by side slits in the bottom of that mount then bending the remaining metal back and forth until it broke off and left a gap in the mount where I could get a grease gun fitting in.
If it wasn't for that issue I would have probably given this control arm set up a 5 Vic head rating instead of a 4. I would recommend this product due to pricing and quality.
However, I should mention that once installed I did take it back for another alignment. And even though the steering was improved, it did not restore the steering to a pleasurable experience. As a matter of fact, the alignment shop then told me they couldn't adjust the camber which, prior to this install, was never mentioned so perhaps I need to find a different shop.
Anyway, this is definitely an involved project. Thank goodness for floor jacks and ratchet straps and impact wrenches.
Thank you for watching
