In April 2024 we walked from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago de Compostela as a family of five.
Camino Update Day #1
Kids didn’t sleep too well. Grant was up 4 times, Tanzen once. Apparently she had a grammar question in her dream and thought it necessary to call out to me in her sleep to solve it. I did not think that was necessary. We got the kids up in the morning and hiked over the Pyrenees. It was beautiful weather until mid afternoon when the clouds rolled in. While we were trying to make it over the pass the rain picked up and then turned to sleet. The wind was so strong it knocked them down and they had to hold on to us and shelter behind a church until we could all catch our breath. I took the moment to present them each with 5¢ coins and called them their Mountain Climber Coins. Grant was pleased. I think the other two were expecting more.
Made it to the hotel, ate eggs, bacon, French fries and a baguette. Then got them all showered. Once they got under the warm covers they started to find energy again.
