Four cousins leave their homes and travel to their grandparents’ village, where cicadas sing, evenings glow with lantern light, and days pass slowly between play and laughter. There are packed bags, quiet goodbyes, dusty roads, and the warm welcome of an old wooden house waiting among fields and mountains.
They eat with dirty clothes, play until night falls, whisper secrets under blankets, sneak into the kitchen for ice cream, and laugh when they are caught. Days are filled with river walks, village markets, swings in the fields, and small moments that stay longer than big events.
At night, the village gathers for a traditional kabuki performance. Hands clap, children stare in wonder, grandparents smile knowingly. Summer feels full.
And then, as all summers do, it ends.
