FLIGHT ABOUT ARDROSSAN BEEN ILL FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND A FLIGHT IS JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED WELL MAYBE NOT LOL.
Ardrossan is the mainland gateway to the Isle of Arran, with ferries to Brodick taking just 55 minutes across the Firth of Clyde.
Ardrossan, a historic harbour town on Scotland’s Ayrshire coast, is best known today as the departure point for the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry to Brodick, Arran’s main port. The crossing covers about 13 miles and runs several times daily, typically lasting under an hour. In summer, services are frequent and often busy, while winter timetables may shift, with alternative sailings from Troon or Claonaig when vessels undergo maintenance.
The ferry is a lifeline for Arran, carrying residents, visitors, and vehicles, and offering stunning views of Goatfell and the island’s rugged coastline as you sail. Ardrossan itself has a maritime heritage, sandy beaches, and rail links to Glasgow, making it a convenient hub for travellers. For foot passengers, check-in is quick, but vehicles should be booked well in advance, especially in peak season.
Together, Ardrossan and the Arran ferry embody Scotland’s blend of practicality and beauty: a working port that opens the door to one of the country’s most beloved island escapes.
