The Twinkle Brothers were formed in 1962 in Falmouth, Jamaica, by brothers Norman Grant (vocals, drums) and Ralston Grant (vocals, rhythm guitar). Emerging during the early development of Jamaican popular music, the group was later expanded with the addition of Eric Barnard (piano), Karl Hyatt (vocals, percussion), and Albert Green (congas, percussion), creating a well-rounded and versatile lineup.

After winning several local talent competitions, the Twinkle Brothers took a major step forward in their career in 1966 by recording their first single, “Somebody Please Help Me,” for renowned producer Leslie Kong. This debut recording served as an important breakthrough, opening doors to collaborations with some of Jamaica’s most influential music producers.

Following this initial success, the group worked with legendary figures such as Duke Reid, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Sid Bucknor, Phil Pratt, and Bunny Lee, further strengthening their reputation within the Jamaican music scene and contributing to their artistic development.

Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, the Twinkle Brothers were a regular presence on Jamaica’s hotel circuit, performing a refined blend of calypso, soul, pop, and smooth reggae. In the early 1970s, they began producing their own recordings, gaining greater creative independence and solidifying their place in the history and evolution of reggae music.
