Описание: Black families in the 1950s often seemed healthier than white families with doctor access—not because they had superior healthcare, but because exclusion from medical system forced development of preventive practices: whole-foods diets (greens, beans, sweet potatoes as medicine), herbal remedies passed through generations (sassafras, elderberry, ginger, garlic), physical activity integrated into daily life, community/spiritual stress management instead of medication, limited processed foods/sugar/stimulants, and focus on prevention rather than treatment. But this overlooks those who died from lack of proper medical care, ignores higher maternal/infant mortality and lower life expectancy. The "medicine" was different—was adaptation to exclusion that had some benefits (preventive focus, whole foods, effective herbs) and significant costs (no access to antibiotics, surgery, emergency care). Not superiority but survival strategy that promoted health in some ways while leaving people vulnerable in others.
