Unusually heavy rains battered the Moroccan city of Ksar El Kebir, causing rivers to swell rapidly and flood residential neighbourhoods, homes and roads, while electricity supplies were cut in several areas.
Footage captured on Friday shows vehicles and residents wading through floodwaters, as rescue teams work to evacuate people and provide assistance to affected households.
“We have never experienced flooding of this magnitude; it is the first time. I’m not exaggerating, it is frightening,” one resident said.
He added that areas along the Larache road and those close to the main route linking to Rabat were among the worst hit, forcing residents to evacuate after floodwaters inundated homes and knocked out power supplies.
Another resident praised the response of emergency services.
