But if we put that in combo with my obsession for church conversions, I always kind of had this thing and I remember saying, oh, no, because I found my dream house five years too early. So I emailed John that graft, whatever, and I was like, all right, I'll probably hear back in like two days. And I think within the next 15 minutes, John had emailed me back and I was like, this is that this is happening.

So here's the thing. I don't know how many people buy homes on a whim, but I had nothing. I didn't walk into this with a budget, with a broker, with anything. But in that conversation with John, first of all, it just felt right. I felt very comfortable. I could ask him the right questions. I didn't have my own agent. John was the listing agent, but I immediately felt like he was being honest.

Who's being truthful? I didn't have to worry about both sides and he set me up with everything else. He told me how the inspection process was going to work. He gave me the number of a mortgage broker that I was able to talk to in the next five minutes and had a great experience with her. So I was just really teed up from the get go from this place, which is my dream home, as well as John being the listed agent.

John worked with the developers to make sure that those all got installed before I even put pen to paper. And so that was really nice because it had made it already feel like mine. And, you know, I was there. This was going to be my home. And just having those little pieces, actually, the first piece of design or thing that I added to the house that I had them install was a brass lion doorknocker, which is the oddest thing, I'm sure.

And this was home when I first moved into the Wicker Park West Town area about ten years ago. Someone took me to Bike Cafe and they said, this is your welcome to the neighborhood. You have to go to Fight Cafe. It has been in the last ten years my absolute favorite spot and the place that will bring anyone who comes to Chicago. And now I'm two blocks away. So I'm just waiting for the point where they start to know my name.

And I will tell you, I did have a bit of a small heart palpitation when I walked in with John to do a last walk around and I stood there and I said, John, I ordered this table and I don't think about fit. I think it's too big. And so I pulled up the specs and we John and I, he, of course, had his measuring tape because he never goes anywhere without it. And we, like, measured out what this would look like.

Thank God it fits, but it was a moment I was pretty green.

This is my first home purchase and I had done zero research and actually understanding what it takes to buy a home. So when I walked in, John was the selling agent and he asked me if I had a real estate agent. I hadn't worked with anyone before and I gave him the most nonchalant no. And he said, All right, then I'm in. Here's the other nice thing about working John as a single agent for both the seller and me as the buyer.

So when I was in the process of figuring out where the water heater would go, I would be withdrawn and he would be picking up the phone with the contractor and developer.

And it was one line of communication, instead of adding another buffer in there where who knows what gets lost in translation.

So it was efficient, it was easy and it was quick. If I had a question, I got an answer because it was John Developer, John Me also. It really helps that John is incredibly prompt. Every text, every phone call, any email is always on top of it and making sure that, again, first time homebuyer, this is kind of scary. And that was very reassuring. Just to have answers to my questions or at least, hey, I'm on it.
