Ghargad is also know as Gadgada. It lies in Amboli Hill Range of Nashik. "Gadgada Sangvi” village is 18 kms from Nashik which unfolds the hill range known as Amboli. There are 3 peak attracts our attention.The right tops ' Amboli 'on the left and Summit ' Aghori'. And the middle peak is known as “Gadgada Fort”. Use of climbing mechanism is must for beginners.
Considering the size of the fort and its location, it must have been used for surveillance as a Watchtower. Dangya Sulka, Anjaneri, and Valdevi dams can be seen from the head of the fort in the east, and Mukne dam, Patta, Aundha, Beetangad, and Kalsubai mountain ranges can be seen in the west. Very less is known about its history. During the reign of Shivaji Maharaj, this fort came under Swarajya between the years 1670-72. On 18 July 1748 Gadgada fort was conquered by Shankaraji Keshav Sabnis but it is not known from whom did he conquer it. When the fort was captured by Captain Briggs in 1818, the fort is said to have two gates.
