The Pokérus Event gives you a little bit of lore about the virus and has a guaranteed chance of giving Pokérus to your party member in the first slot. This event becomes available after having obtained the Shining Gem in Ancient Alcove, which unlocks after beating the 5th gym and obtaining HM03 Surf.

Professor Birch will call you when you're making your way out of Ancient Alcove. He says that a meteor has landed north of Route 103 and is in need of your assistance.

Upon arriving, Birch tells a bit more about the meteor and you help him out. Near the end of the event, the Pokémon in the first slot of your party receives the Pokérus virus.

This event is intentionally placed alongside unlocking the Specialty Tower, so you can get an extra boost while EV Training your Pokemon.
