Growing Market and Investment: Thailand offers a growing market for electronics. In 2024, the Board of Investment (BOI) approved 371 projects in the electronics industry with a total investment exceeding 258 billion THB, a significant increase from 2023. Specifically, 81 PCB manufacturing projects were approved in 2024, valued at approximately 100 billion THB. This growth is fueled by global trade challenges, the "China Plus One" policy, and international players relocating production bases to Thailand.
Strategic Industries: The Thai government has identified "smart electronics" as a strategic sector under its Thailand 4.0 and Industry 5.0 initiatives. PCB and PCBA are core components for high-technology products like "IoT devices, AI servers, medical devices, EV machinery, and automation systems". Thailand's PCB export is projected to account for roughly 10% of the global market in 2024, driven by demand in AI servers, telecommunication, IoT, and EVs.
Addressing Challenges & Future Vision: While experiencing significant growth (predicted at 8.3% to 15% for PCB), Thailand is actively addressing challenges such as "talent shortages", developing its electronics ecosystem, and preparing for more advanced manufacturing like semiconductors. Strategies include:
Workforce Development: Enhancing skills through job matching and upskilling/reskilling initiatives, working with academics to improve the workforce.
Ecosystem Improvement: Strengthening the overall electronics ecosystem.
Policy Support: Creating strong government policies and BOI incentives to attract high-tech manufacturing.
Smart Green Manufacturing: Promoting eco-friendly technologies and ESG compliance.
Talent & Innovation Hub: Fostering industry-academia partnerships, research, and skill development.
Thailand Electronic Circuit Center (TECC): A critical project, co-led by THPCA, to strengthen the PCB fabrication supply chain and support the industry through seven strategic pillars, including local supply chain development, prototype development, R&D, and cluster development.
THECA 2025 Event Details: Following the "phenomenal success" of THECA 2024, which attracted over 4,500 participants from 26 countries, THECA 2025 will return bigger and bolder. It will take place from August 20-22, 2025, at Bitec Hall in Bangkok. The event aims to double its exhibition space, bringing together over 500 leading companies and attracting more than 7,000 global participants, making it the region's premier electronics industry platform.
