Location
This #tourist attraction is located in Shimlapara Mouza (now Hemnagar) of #Gopalpur #Tangail District, #Dhaka Division.

#History
Zamidar Hemchandra Chowdhury built this #Zamindar Bari (1890). He ruled the people of his area with a strict hand. To pass the Zamindar Bari, they had to walk barefoot, bowing their heads continuously to show their loyalty, and also walking upside down. They were forced to follow all these rules.[1] In 1880 (1286 Bangabhab), Hemchandra Chowdhury left the Ambaria #Rajbari in Madhupur Upazila and built a new Rajbari in Subarnakhali village of Jhawail Union in Gopalpur Upazila. He started managing the Zamindar from there.
Hemchandra Chowdhury built a new two-storey palace in Shimlapara Mouza in 1890 (1296 Bangabhab). It is located three kilometers east-south from Subarnakhali. Several wells were dug inside the house, surrounded by high and wide walls, for drinking water. There was a zoo, a puja-pa, an elephant house and a flower garden. There was a two-storey theatre in front of the fairy's house. Inside and in front of the house there is a large pond (dighi) with a ghat built on paca san (brick and surkir). Around the fairy's house, a ghat built on paca san, a dighi and a puca house were built for relatives.

Craftsmanship
Flowers, stars, trees, etc. have been made using colored glass on the walls, pillars and gates of the building. The house, which is very elaborately decorated, is covered with #expensive tiles and #beautiful #stones and has two sculptures of fairies on the front. The house, which was built by craftsmen and masons from Delhi and Kolkata, looks like a work of art. This house with a hundred rooms on 60 acres of land is called #Parir #Dalan.

Current status
The main building of this #zamindar house is now #hemnagar #college . A huge (Hemnagar Bazar) market was built in the far south of the palace. The area was named Hemnagar after Hemchandra Chowdhury. Currently (in 1989) a college (degree college) has been established in the house.
