Ghazal Furniturewala emphasizes the importance of reconnecting with traditional, local, and seasonal eating habits for better health. She critiques modern nutrition trends like demonizing fats or carbs and relying on ultra-processed foods, which have contributed to rising obesity rates and poor health outcomes.
Instead, she advocates for Food-Based Dietary Guidelines (FBDGs) that focus on whole foods and cultural practices, highlighting the significance of eating what’s grown locally, in season, and familiar to our heritage. She also provides practical tips on incorporating traditional foods into daily life and stresses that health is holistic, involving diet, exercise, sleep, and mental well-being. Ghazal Furniturewala has trained under and is working with
Rujuta Diwekar as a nutritionist since 2018 after completing
her BAMS. In a career spanning over 5 years, she has worked
with a diverse set of clients from all walks of life, of all age
groups and varying fitness levels, and plans diet and workout
routines for them. She has also been speaking at various
forums on topics related to health and nutrition. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
