YAG stands for Yttrium Aluminium Garnet. These were very popular before Cubic Zirconia came out in the late 1970s. Soon after Cubic Zirconia was released YAG plummeted in demand because, cubic zirconia had better optical properties than YAG.
YAG= 1.83 Refractive Index 0.028 Dispersion Hardness 8.5
CZ= 2.15-2.20 Refractive Index 0.06 Dispersion Hardness 8.5
This video clearly demonstrates dispersion values as YAG doesn’t have nearly as much dispersion/Fire as CZ. The main reason why CZ replaced YAG in the marketplace in the 1970s
