2 Corinthians 8:9

1. When was Jesus rich?
1. Jesus was certainly not materially rich, but as the son of God, before His incarnation, Jesus was rich by virtue of His relationship with God the Father.
2. In John 17 in His High Priestly prayer Jesus asked the Father that His people will be with Him so that they can see the Glory He had with the Father before the creation of the world, to see the unity between us, to see how much the Father loves Jesus.
3. Jesus defines the richness He had as:
1. Being in union with the Father
2. Experiencing the love with the Father
3. Being in fellowship with the Father
2. When did Jesus become poor?
1. When Jesus left the bosom of God the Father and became a human being, when He became separated from God the Father on the cross.
2. He did this to give us this same relationship with God the Father that He had before His incarnation and after His resurrection.
3. How did Jesus become poor?
1. By leaving His abode with the Father, stripping Himself of the equality with God
2. By taking on flesh
3. Tasted Death on our behalf
4. How can we become rich through Him?
1. Through all of the above which Jesus did, we, who believe in Him, get the right to become children of God and to be co-heirs with Jesus of the Glory He had from the beginning.
