Healthy Food Access - February 2nd, 2016
This session will highlight the role of local foods in improving health and alleviating hunger, with an emphasis on opportunities presented for producers.
Meet the Presenters:
Arlene Jones and Keith Olander will share about a unique collaborative partnership between Central Lakes College, Lakewood Health Systems, and Sprout Food Hub, where the aim is to capture and rescue agricultural produce left to waste on Central Minnesota fields, and utilize those commodities through our local foods shelves, prescriptive CSA programs, and to feed those in need
Marilyn Hofland, SNAP-Ed Educator for the U of M Extension, will share about the role of SNAP-Ed programs to promote local foods through farmers markets, community gardens., and more.
Peter Woitock, a community organizer with Hunger Solutions, will share about the new Market Bucks program this year that will support farmers market vendors and low income residents.
