The storms fired up just East of Tampa around 6pm and slowly drifted West. By 8:45pm the storms reached us and stalled out. Pretty typical summer evening in Safety Harbor!
Over the course of this storm, the nearby lightning and thunder lasted for 1 hour, 45 mins. We received 2 inches of rainfall. The high winds scattered tree debris all over town. Our neighbors 2 doors down had part of their tree fall onto their driveway. The houses across the street lost their power twice during the storm. Exciting night!!
Tragically, a bolt of lightning struck a utility pole on the Courtney Campbell Causeway, severing a live wire. Hours later, a bicyclist rode over the live wire, killing him.
