Twenty Geng Rames members charged over organised crime links in Sungai Petani

Описание: Twenty members of the 'Geng Rames' criminal group were charged at the Sessions Court here today with being members of an organised crime syndicate.

All 20 accused, aged between 24 and 42, understood the charge when it was read to them with the assistance of an interpreter before judge Najwa Che Mat.

No plea was recorded as cases under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The accused were G. Magen, S. Tanesh, R. Shargunan, S. Kanesram, V. Mathavan, J. Thanes, V. Yanasegar, Paramasivan, G. Yuvaraj, M. Ponggiswaran, P. Puganeswaran, S. Nagarajan, R. Gobinath, R. Kumareasan, R. Puvaneswaran, P. Kathiresan, K. Kesavan, S. Delhipraj, V. Navin Kumar and T. Vivegananth.

According to the charge, the accused are alleged to have been members of an organised criminal group known as 'Geng Rames' between January last year and Dec 4 this year at Kampung Sungai Division in the Kuala Muda district.

They were charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail sentence of between five and 20 years upon conviction.
