The TransMiCable cable car system, launched in December 2018, allows for easy travel up and down the steep hillsides of Ciudad Bolívar in Bogotá, Colombia. The cable car connects the area to the city’s bus rapid transit system (TransMilenio) and reduces residents’ travel time by up to 80%. The cable car installation was accompanied by a broader urban development program, including the installation of new community facilities and improvements to urban infrastructure.
A team of SALURBAL researchers at the University of the Andes is studying TransMiCable’s impact on the health of residents of Ciudad Bolívar. Using citizen science approaches, researchers have worked to understand local perspectives regarding the installation and impact of the TransMiCable intervention. Community members provided essential feedback to guide research questions and have made the data collection process possible. This video highlights the perspective of two community leaders in Ciudad Bolívar.
