It’s true! Hypochlorous acid is 80-120 times more efficacious than sodium hypochlorite (bleach). The contact time is 5 seconds, compared to most disinfectants which range from 1-4 minutes. We make our hypochlorous in office to ensure maximum freshness to protect our patients.
Water and sodium chloride coupled with hydrolysis yields hypochlorous acid, a chemical very harmful to viruses yet safe for humans. This is the equation for a perfect disinfectant. After the reaction is complete, we verify the free chlorine to verify the reaction is complete. To apply the chemical we use an atomizer that evenly distributes into the area we are disinfecting. Then we hang wheelies as we leave work.
