Inspired by ;Hamlet', a bloody period epic about court intrigue in China's Five Dynasties period, where malice and treachery rule.
With the sudden death of the Emperor, suspicion falls on his ambitious brother Li (Ge You), who takes both the throne as well as the beautiful Empress Wan (Ziyi Zhang) as his.
The only obstacle in his path to legitimacy is his brother's son, Prince Wuluan (Daniel Wu).
With a late night banquet planned, schemes are afoot as each player carefully plot their move against each other...
