Tobias Lund Andresen (23) claimed victory on Stage 1 of the 2026 Tour Down Under this Wednesday, January 21. In Tanunda, after 120.6 kilometers of racing, the Danish sprinter from Decathlon–CMA CGM delivered a perfectly timed finish, brilliantly set up by his teammates.
Behind him, Matthew Brennan (Visma–Lease a Bike) had to settle for second place, while Sam Welsford (INEOS Grenadiers), boxed in near the barriers, was never able to launch his sprint and finished third.
Thanks to a solid prologue the day before and the time bonuses gained on Stage 1, Lund Andresen now takes the overall lead and the leader’s jersey. He holds a one-second advantage over Sam Watson (INEOS Grenadiers), the prologue winner.
