One of the biggest lies in the Church today is that Ezra Taft Benson was a loose cannon on politics. That he, and he alone, would get political in his talks and addresses. This is a lie. Many of the early prophets and apostles of the 20th century were outspoken critics of these false and dangerous ideas. In fact, David O. McKay was known for opening general conferences with talks denouncing communism and calling for a defense of liberty (as he did in Oct 1961)!
Ezra Taft Benson simply was the most blunt of them. This 1961 classic is, arguably, his most straightforward talk on the issues facing the United States, and many nations around the world. So, if you like the sunshine and lollipop talks, this is not one for you. If you want prophetic warnings from a watchman on the tower, and marching orders from on high, I give you this Oct. 1961 classic from the archives!
