Jose Maceda - Dissemination (1990)
Jose Maceda conducting the Japan Symphony Orchestra
------------------
The musical organization of Dissemination is a division of of pitches into five ranged of pitch-colors represented by five flutes, 5 violins, 5 oboes, 5 horns, and 5 cellicontrabasses. besides a background of 2 tamtam gongs and 2 tiny whistle-flutes. Each of the five groups of instruments play lines of pitches recognizable also as color-shades
The grouping of instruments may be made with other combinations of pitch-colors, theoretically possible in ensembles of winds and strings playing pitches outseide the system of equal temperament.
The other possibility lis in pitch-colors which may be realized by the computer. Here, shades of color need not imitate winds and strings. Rather, the number of instruments for each group may be increased considerably to consist of closely-related pitches, no longer recognizable as individual lines but as a shadow, light or movement. Groupings of instruments with 5, 25, or 100 lines would produce various sound densities with gradients perceived first as thin lines, becoming thicker lines or shades of colors.
Dissemination with only 5 instruments per group is a music of color-lines, a bridge to another expression.
