Oftentimes I'm out on the PGA Tour
and I'm with my players in the Pro-Am.
After watching the amateur partners
hit worm-burners and top their fairway woods,
I ask them what they're trying to do.
And they say they're trying to sweep it.
And I appreciate trying to shallow an attack angle
to get a three-wood up in the air
but it's how you're trying to sweep it.
What I see is a lot of this,
with a lot of change in the hand angles to sweep it.
The issue with that is that the angle changes so acutely,
it's tough to make good contact.
What I would advise you, is to sweep it with your setup.
So the ball position is up in the stance,
the stance is wide,
and as you can see here
my spine's tilted away from the target.
If I go from here to an impact position,
you can see that the shoulders are working this way,
because of all the previous angles.
So the shaft lean is going to give me the opportunity
to hit the ball solid or hit slightly down on it
with the position of the pivot and the body
allowing me to sweep it.
So use your body positions to sweep the ball
instead of your hands.
