iovanni Cecchinato, one of the leading exponents of industrial documentary, records the transformations brought about by the arrival of large-scale industry. The film is divided into three parts: an investigation into the country's living and working conditions through various occupations: the fisherman, the barber, the farmer, the emigrant, with glimpses into social and family life. The second part recounts the epic story of the founding of a new industry, whose structures are explicitly compared to the soaring pillars of classical times. By the end, all professions have found their counterpart in the factory, from the coachman who became a chauffeur to the barber who became a workshop nurse.
