This part of the animation was animated between the April and May of 2016. It was the first preview video I shared of the project shortly afterward. Extensions and other fine-tuning have been added to the scene much later because parts of it had to be reanimated or rewritten.
It's crazy to think that Shin Godzilla hadn't come out yet when I originally animated this. And that my information about the Godzilla franchise was so much more limited, even after having read a handful of books about it. Not that it is complete today by any means, but misinformation about the brand was much more rampant nearly ten years ago.
Among others, I originally wanted to reference the infamous myth of the late suit performer Kenpachiro Satsuma undergoing surgery inside the Hedorah costume during the filming of Godzilla vs. Hedorah. In the intervening years, I read up on actual interviews conducted with Satsuma, wherein he described the event differently, claiming that his symptoms only worsened after filming while wearing the suit for a publicity stunt, and he didn't mention anything about being inside it for his surgery.
This is a pretty short scene despite all of the things I had to change in it. Up next comes a very, very lengthy string of Mechagodzilla fight scenes, at least four of them, so I don't yet know how I'll be uploading those. Maybe it'll be one at a time, or multiple fights edited together. I don't want to release them all as one giant video because that would take ages.
