🌏Spoon-billed Sandpiper is a Critically Endangered migratory waterbird in East Asian-Australasian Flyway. There is only about 500 individuals in the global population, due to intertidal habitat loss throughout its migratory, wintering ranges and illegal hunting and taking.
In 2013, a project run by Hong Kong Bird Watching Society, conducted a project to promote the conservation of this rare species. With support from 500 children and helpers from 12 areas and 8 countries (Russia, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Mainland China, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, and Bangladesh), they helped to color the pictures of a total of 1200 pictures. The pictures were then compiled into the animation which the children conveyed the call for protecting the Spoon-billed Sandpiper.
This project was organized by the China Programme of BirdLife International/Hong Kong Bird Watching Society and was sponsored by Eric Hosking Trust.
