A video describing the type of life jacket recommended for shore fishing (ie an automatic one with 150-175n of buoyancy and a crotch strap). This particular one is a Spinlock Deckvest Lite. Its an automatic jacket, meaning if you fall in, it will automatically inflate. It has 170n of buoyancy, a crotch strap (essential), a whistle, a light, a manual inflation tube and a spray hood (I've fitted a knife to mine as well).
Comfort is important, so try to find one with no seems that can rub on your neck. Jackets with velcro closures easily come undone, try to find a zipped one. Life jackets need annual servicing. Spend as much as you can afford - it's your life it might save!!
