Mistakes You’re Making When Colour Grading: A Step by Step Guide

Описание: Colour grading can make or break a music video. When we shot JuLeo - Boogeyman, we had a solid concept, strong performances, and sharp footage. But the first grade we got back? Technically correct but... No mood. No edge. No reason for a viewer to remember it.

So I threw out the “safe” approach and built the grade from the ground up, pushing colors until they felt like a character in the video. Think the vibrancy of Doja by Central C, the texture of Mad Max: Fury Road, and the mood control of a Wes Anderson palette.

In this video, I’ll take you inside that processnot just to show you my Final Cut Pro workflow with LUTs, masks, and Rec.709 mastering, but to teach you how to:
• Give your footage a distinct cinematic identity (even on a small budget)
• Compress your colors into a cohesive, intentional palette
• Balance technical accuracy with creative risk
• Fix problem lighting without ruining the vibe
• Use film references as a blueprint without copying them shot-for-shot
