Don’t forget to train the SOLEUS!
The soleus muscle is the main calf muscle involved in the ‘push off’ movement when walking or running any distance. It is the dominant calf muscle when doing any activity at a lower intensity and for a longer time. Opposed to the bigger and more superficial calf muscle, gastrocnemius, which is more dominant in sprinting or hopping.
Soleus is often neglected in strengthening programmes and if so, can lead to repetitive calf
strains and Achilles tendinopathy.
On this post we have 5 exercises that target the soleus muscle. Remember the key is to
keep the knee bent.
1️⃣ Loaded bent knee creeper walks
2️⃣ Seated heel raise
3️⃣ Squat calf raise
4️⃣ Bulgarian calf raise
5️⃣ Unilateral calf raise
So grab some load whether it’s a a dumb bell, kettle bell or a small child and get training!
Tag someone who could benefit from these exercises.
