This short film from George Burling Jarrett, "Bleriots and Nieuports", features WWI aircraft footage. It begins with shots of the Blériot XI, a pioneering plane first flown by pilot and designed Louis Blériot across the English Channel in 1909. The flight represented the first time a heavier-than-air craft had crossed the Channel, and one of the most important accomplishments of the early era of aviation. The plane was later produced in a military version. At 1:54, Allied pilots are seen practicing dogfight maneuvers with model aircraft. At 2:28, French Nieuport fighters are shown lined up at an airdrome. These appear to be Nieuport 10 / Nieuport XB aircraft, flown by many of the early French aces. At 3:12, a pilot gets in his plane's cockpit and takes off towards camera (3:35).
N.B.: This film was originally released by G. B. Jarrett, a military collector and the Chief of the Ordnance Museum at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.
