Badfinger - Japanese Documentary (1973) - English Version

This short film contains BBC radio footage, rehearsal room footage, live performance footage, a quick glimpse into each members personal life and history, Bill Collins wedding, Etc.. The documentary showcases their popularity in Japan at the time. It even includes glimpses of Bill's Son, Lewis Collins organizing his father's wedding reception at the home he shared with the group on 7 Park Avenue in Golders Green, London. Snippets of this film have been leaked over the years, but this is the entire film in full.

The Japanese film crew was led by Abé and was in the UK from 1973 July 24 until August 25.

August 2: Erecting tent for wedding reception party.
August 4: Wedding ceremony in Hampstead at 10AM. Party from 7:00PM to 4:00AM
August 7: Pete filmed at work in his room.
August 10: BBC In Concert (Hippodrome) rehearsals: 3:30 to 6:30 PM; recording: 9:00 to 10:30PM.
August 11-12: On location in Liverpool.
August 13: On location in Burnley.
August 14-15: On location in Swansea.

This version of the Documentary was Narrated by David Markus. The film and music were slightly re-edited by Jacob Markus and Tom Brennan to allow for the English Translation and correct some alignment of the audio. The English translation came from a Fanzine, Kiyoyuki Kohaka and additional input from Dan Matovina. That format translated a bit too literally, so from that point Tom Brennan made some adjustments for this translation to land a bit easier in English. It was then recontextualized by David Markus at the same timed out parts that the Japanese was spoken in the original version. This August of 1973 footage is most likely the last surviving footage of the classic line up of the band. The audio for Constitution shows them performing both Constitution and the song Suitcase, but since the screen states that the song is Constitution, there were no adjustments made to the audio there. The film ends with a mention of staying true to oneself and the reminder to carry on, carry on, carry on.
