Scottish Government Debate: Independence White Paper
S4M-08407 Alex Salmond: Independence White Paper—That the Parliament welcomes the publication of the Scottish Government's comprehensive guide to an independent Scotland; agrees that it is better for everyone in Scotland if decisions about the country's future are taken by the people who care most about Scotland, the people who live and work here; recognises the detailed analysis of the opportunities, benefits and practicalities of independence set out in the white paper, and its comprehensive answers to questions about independence, and looks forward to a positive national debate on independence for Scotland, with contributions from all perspectives and from all sectors of Scottish society, before the historic vote on 18 September 2014.
The Presiding Officer has selected the following amendments
S4M-08407.1 Johann Lamont: Independence White Paper—As an amendment to motion S4M-08407 in the name of Alex Salmond (Independence White Paper), leave out from "welcomes" to end and insert "believes that Scotland enjoys the best of both worlds, a strong Scottish Parliament in a strong UK; notes the publication of the Scottish Government's guide to an independent Scotland, and looks forward to a debate over the next year that reflects the priorities of the people and strengthens the position of Scotland as a partner in the UK rather than as a separate state."
