Following the success of 2016, this event will be another opportunity for trade, media and wine lovers to explore the island’s 6000-year winemaking history
and taste genuinely exciting wines of 18 producers. It will offer the first ever opportunity in the UK to taste rare, age-old varieties like Promara, Spourtiko and
Morokanella, and will show once again that Cyprus deserves an important place on the international wine map.

Cyprus’s historical links with Vintners’ Hall date back to
1363, when King Peter I of Cyprus, together with four
other kings, was entertained at a banquet reception
at the Hall, widely known as the Feast of the Five
Kings. According to the tradition, the five kings used
Commandaria, the traditional wine of Cyprus, to toast.
At this TRADE ONLY event, many internationally
awarded wines will be presented, produced by the
distinctive local grapes of the island, along with
popular international varieties made in the Cyprus
style.
Caroline Gilby MW and Demetri Walters MW, both
leading experts on Cyprus wines, will each hold a
Masterclass as part of the event.
Caroline will be taking a look at the native white
grapes of Cyprus and the rediscovery of some almost
forgotten varieties. She will finish with a brief look at
the traditional and new faces of Commandaria.
Demetri will be showing native and international
red grapes that are finding their optimal terroir and
driving a systematic improvement in wine quality on
the island.
