Video reference: • OoT: Bombchu Slash HESS のヒント
This trick allows you to perform a HESS off a Bombchu you self-detonate with the Master Sword's vertical slash. It is the fastest general method of entering a HESS in OoT.
Unfortunately this HESS requires 2 frame perfect inputs to perform, the roll and the Z+R press. However, the roll is just a fixed timing during the sword swing, and the Z+R timing is always a fixed amount of time after this roll.
NOTE: I play on SoH, so I have no input delay on any of my inputs :^)
There are many sword swing timings that detonate the bombchu that can work and don't work for this trick, by following the below starting method(s) you will give yourself the *most* leniency (4f) for the sword slash part of this trick.
Bombchu Slash from Stand Still:
f0 - Z-target (standing)
f1 - Z-target + Forward
f2 - Z-target + Forward + Shield
f3-f6: Forward + B (non Z-target Vertical Slash)
f3-f6 NOTES: If delaying slash, you must continue holding forward during the frames you are delaying. Z-target can be let go if only if slashing within the next 2 frames. So for example, if Z-target is let go on f3, you can hold just forward on f4, but must begin slashing on f5.
...
Bombchu Slash from Forward Run:
Same as standstill method except you must wait 2f before slashing. The same concept of having to hold forward, and when you can drop lock-on applies to these delay frames.
f0 - Z-target + Forward
f1 - Z-target + Forward
f2 - Z-target + Forward + Shield
f3 - Z-target + Forward (Delay frame 1)
f4 - Z-target + Forward (Delay frame 2, Z-target can be dropped here is slashing on f5)
f5-f8: Forward + B (non Z-target Vertical Slash)
...
2nd half of trick:
Roll on last frame of sword swing (frame perfect)
While rolling, begin holding ESS position
Z+R on frame 2 of explosion (frame perfect)
...
❗ Extra notes:
You must vertical slash within 2f of dropping Z-target, so for the vertical slash to work all the way to f6 from stand still, you must have dropped lock-on earliest by f4.
Explosion will always hit you on the same exact frame of roll if done correctly, regardless of vertical slash timing.
Slopes can affect the delay timing of the vertical slash.
