"Become Home" by Zane Prater, adorns new boutique hotel Downtown.

Описание: Kinship Landing, a friendly boutique hotel in Downtown Colorado Springs, will open late 2020. Artist Zane Prater was commissioned to create a mural on the north side of the hotel.

The mural depicts the process of connecting to an environment, the act of coming into a sense of familiarity with a landscape, of a place becoming a home and a person coming into a sense of belonging. It is about learning the name of the original inhabitants of an area (not only the people but the plants and animals as well) and learning from their customs and wisdoms. More directly, the painting depicts a woman and a group of people out in the mountains harvesting Osha root.

The central figure, Sharon, was born in Argentina to Swedish and Irish parents. She symbolizes a common experience in our modern globalized era of being somewhat 'placeless,' of growing up separated from an ancestral land and traditions or of all together not having any connection to a sense of lineage of heritage.

The smaller figures are drawn from members of the Colorado Springs community. The piece depicts a communal act but also points to the importance of the individual amidst the community. It speaks to the importance of the individual's participation within the collective in order to enrichen, diversify, and strengthen the community spirit. (courtesy Kinship Landing)
