Short Documentary
Living on the shore above the high tide mark, sea slaters are best seen during the evening. Like most of their closely related relatives of the woodlouse family, sea slaters are recyclers; feeding on dead animals and plants that get washed up on shore.
Sea slaters are under threat on some beaches from mechanical beach cleaning, although it is important to keep our beaches litter free, mechanical beach cleaning destroys the strandline habitat in which these creatures live in.
They are closely related to the pill bug and wood bug also known as roly poly and sow bug.
