Here is the procedure for replacing the mechanical seal on a vertical booster pump. This is a Webtrol NV Series vertical booster pump.
Instructions:
Begin by taking off the cover plates using a screwdriver.
Then remove the coupling by taking out the 4 bolts, and remove the coupling completely.
And then, take out the pin.
Use your allan wrench to loosen the 3 set screws on the collar of the seal,
but do not take them out. Only loosen them until they are flush with the collar.
Then remove the 4 screws that hold the seal in.
Use a small flat screwdriver to carefully lift the seal off, and remove it.
Locate your new mechanical seal and carefully push it into place.
Replace the 4 screws to secure the seal. Press firmly to make sure the stack is all the way down.
Then retighten the 3 set screws, and insert the pin back in place.
Reattach the collar with the 4 bolts but do not tighten completely.
Set the stack with a spacer, then finish tightening the 4 bolts on the collar.
And finally, reattach the 2 side plates.
