Campen Auktioner to Auction Rare Collection of 26 Vintage Cars Discovered in Danish Barn
The initial story is the familiar tale of an enthusiast collecting vintage cars for years, just storing them on his farm. Furthermore, this collector had an ambition about creating a vintage car museum. However, when his barns were full, he literally closed that door.
When the collector recently passed away, 15 years after shutting the barn door, the handling of the cars was turned over to Campen Auktioner, Denmark's leading auction house regarding barn finds like this, which had sold two similar collections in 2015 alone.
A true barn find consists of vehicles, which have been frozen in time for decades and are quite rare, often creating international attention. This barn find has surfaced at just the right time as the interest for original and untouched vehicles is presently at a peak.
Rarely do cars come more untouched than this latest barn find: the cars covered with years of dust, cobwebs and grime, nonetheless also so tightly packed that they required lots work and special tools just to retrieve from the barn. Over the years, the vegetation had grown high around the buildings and indeed the barn door could only be opened with the help of a chainsaw. No person had seen this collection for years.
Car by car was towed out into daylight to reveal surprisingly solid cars, exactly the sort of unspoiled originals that could form the basis for a thorough restoration in order to bring them back to their former glory.
The 26 cars are mainly from the 1920's though to the 1940's supplemented by a few 50's cars. A few were reputedly restored before being put away, however all need work to get back to life.
Not least a rare Renault Celtaquatre from 1934-35, which was left outside the barns under a tarpaulin. Almost becoming one with nature it will need a dedicated new owner, but nonetheless has attracted a lot of interest because of its rarity.
A rare Ford T from 1926 exhibited at the largest classic car fair in Denmark during a weekend in October generated much intense interest and discussion amongst the audience.
All cars will be auctioned at the Campen Auktioner headquarter in Randers, Denmark, on November 3, 2015
