A cancer cell has electrical properties that can relay information about its physiology, cancer state, and degree of drug resistance. However, disruptive techniques do not allow researchers to investigate these properties at the single-cell level. In a cancer cell monitoring breakthrough, scientists at Tokyo University of Science have developed a new microfluidic platform that improves the electrorotation analytical approach to determine the electrical properties of a number of cells. They validated this device by determining cancer cell membrane permittivity and cytoplasm conductivity.
