Im no stranger to 90's Scandinavian black metal. I've always been enchanted by the melody and atmosphere it has nurtured over the years. This is why when the opening moments of Throne of the Lunar Soul, the 4th full-length album from Cincinnati, Ohio's Valdrin crept in with that early Dimmu Borgir spaciousness, I hoped this band was going to be something special. It is rare to hear such atmosphere arising from a US black metal dominant band. Is it the more violent culture or our addiction to the conveniences of the bigger cities? Somehow, this skilled quartet has tapped into the Scandinavian vibe with their ambitious songcraft. Join me as I attempt to share my experience with Throne of the Lunar Soul!
