Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri has dared the opposition to unveil a clear, practical agenda for the upcoming General Election, cautioning that Kenyans reject empty slogans and rhetoric.
Speaking at a bursary issuance event in Kirinyaga Central, Kiunjuri insisted that both veteran and aspiring politicians face judgment based on their track records. He portrayed leadership as a matter of accountability, where past performance in public office defines credibility. “The political season will not be about noise, but about performance and track record,” he declared, signaling a shift toward substantive debates.
Kiunjuri appeared to target former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies, warning critics of President William Ruto’s administration to brace for scrutiny of their own governance. He stressed that attackers must anticipate reminders of their decisions while in power. “Kenya has educated people who understand politics,” Kiunjuri said, noting that voters now dissect leaders’ statements closely. He predicted the decline of tribal mobilization and emotional tactics, with development achievements dominating the narrative.
The event distributed over KSh 60 million in bursaries to support underprivileged students, highlighting tangible government efforts. Kiunjuri argued these initiatives outshine opposition propaganda, accusing detractors of prioritizing personal assaults and destabilization over national plans.
Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari echoed these views, lauding the administration for delivering on campaign pledges. He affirmed that Kirinyaga benefits from leaders in key government positions, refuting opposition claims of marginalization. Gitari joined Kiunjuri in framing the election as a clash of ideas and records, not insults.
The MPs urged voters to rigorously vet candidates on past accomplishments, not future promises. This comes amid intensifying pre-election rhetoric in Kirinyaga and Central Kenya, where local leaders rally supports for the ruling coalition.
Attendees, including parents and students, praised the bursary program as evidence of effective leadership. “This is real help, not just talk,” one beneficiary remarked. The forum also touched on education access, infrastructure, and economic empowerment, reinforcing the MPs’ emphasis on results.
