Explorer Steve Hall and his friend Michelle backpack into the Grapevine Mountains in April of 2025. Their objective is to complete the legendary Fall-Red Wall Loop, a route that only a handful of advanced hikers have ever accomplished. Fall Canyon is widely known to be one of Death Valley's most beautiful canyons with some very pretty narrows located just past the canyon namesake 1st major dry fall. Beyond that, the canyon becomes extremely challenging and impassable for most hikers. Red Wall Canyon is known for having four sets of spectacular red-colored narrows along with a major dry fall which can be risky to get past. Over the course of three days, Steve and Michelle have to overcome great challenges including major dry falls, bypasses, steep hillside climbs, route-finding, extreme heat, a rainstorm, and even a hailstorm. The rewards for doing so include passing by an abundance of wildflowers, seeing amazing views of Wahguyhe Peak and Mount Palmer, and being the first group to ever fully document Upper Fall Canyon and the entire Fall-Red Wall Loop route. Due to the extreme difficulty, this route is not recommended for the general public, regular hikers, or even advanced hikers. Michelle put it best when she said off camera: "If you're thinking about doing this route - don't!". Having carried out over 250 lifetime hikes in the park, Steve Hall is the most well-known Death Valley adventure hiker in the world. Michelle is one of the most accomplished peak hikers in Death Valley NP, having reached 130 summits as of May 2025.
