Here's a set of tunes from 2018 to test out my Taran 'Springwell' mandolin (#16), made by Rory Dowling in Fife.
The mandolin features a European spruce top and Scottish sycamore back and sides. It's got a really clear, well-balanced sound, rich lows and really twangy, bright, crisp mids and highs - exactly what I was looking for in a mandolin.
The tunes are: Willie Murray (trad.) which learned from the Blazin' Fiddles tunebook collection; The Mystery Inch (David Kosky) which I first heard from the great banjo player, Damien O'Kane; and The Sixteenth which is a tune I wrote in the first few days I had this mandolin in my custody. It's dedicated to Rory for his superb craftsmanship and overwhelming kindness and generosity.
