I'm not sure how smart it is for me to show you a video whereby I'm competing against other auctioneers, but this edited reel is fairly typical of my style.
Contests are nerve-wracking. Few of us enjoy being judged by our peers.
Furthermore, contests have rules that are at odds with "good" benefit auction styles. For instance, I'm not supposed to move from my spot on stage (walking into the crowd would be a big no-no) ... I should keep my hand low when acknowledging bidders ... I shouldn't get carried away with the sale when I say, "sold." (I once was docked for stamping my foot in a moment of enthusiasm.)
Here's me fighting butterflies as I compete for the Virginia state auctioneer championship in August 2012.
