This video goes over how to replace the variable timing control solenoid valves on a 2008 Chevy Malibu. This process will be the same on any 2008-2012 Chevy Malibu. The 2.4 engine in this vehicle has variable engine timing. With VVT, the camshafts are adjusted by ECM through the use of oil controlled valves, also known as variable timing control solenoid valves. When a PO011 code is sent, it means the intake cam in bank one is more advanced than it should be. Symptoms would be a check engine light, hard starting and stalling. We also had a PO013 and a PO014 code. The symptoms are pretty much the same as PO011 with difficulty starting, idle issues, misfires, stalling, etc. The only difference for PO013 and PO014 is that these are for the exhaust variable timing solenoid in bank one. Failure of the camshaft variable timing solenoids can be caused by dirty oil, oil being too low, or even using the wrong viscosity.
