Our road trip to Santa Fe via the Turquoise Trail took us through a few towns, with Madrid being one stop along our way. Unfortunately, we arrived there on a week day when most restaurants, taverns and other venues were closed. Even the church in Madrid was locked up. Will and I didn't spend but a an hours or so in Madrid, but long enough to visit a typical southwestern art and jewelry store and chat with a very charming shop attendant.
Santa Fe was a charming town though mostly populated by tourists visiting some of the many art shops. We strolled narrow streets at time and made our way to Cathedral of Saint Francis of Asisi -- quite beautiful outside and in. As we stepped up the front steps we were slightly startled by the very prominent church bells ringing the classic Big Ben melody.
