After spending some time in the Rhine-Ruhr region (Düsseldorf and Cologne), it was time to head back home. I initially planned to fly from Cologne (CGN), but fares were quite high, so I opted for a cheaper flight from Düsseldorf (DUS) with Eurowings onboard their ex-Germanwings Airbus A319.

Conclusion :
This flight took place back in April 2022, when wearing masks was still mandatory onboard!
After arriving at Düsseldorf Airport by train, I took the famous SkyTrain to reach the terminal — a really cool ride that offers great views of the airport. Since I had already checked in online and had my mobile boarding pass, I went straight to security, which was quite slow and cramped, taking me around 20 minutes to get through. Unfortunately, my flight was slightly delayed. While waiting, I grabbed some pasta and did a bit of plane spotting.
Boarding was done by groups, and since I had purchased priority boarding (which also allowed me to bring a larger cabin bag) for an extra €15, I was among the first to board. My seat was 16A, and back then, Eurowings still allowed free seat selection in the back rows during check-in — quite generous for a low-cost airline!
The cabin featured a standard 3-3 configuration. The seat was decent, offering good legroom and recline. The tray table was a normal size and could be folded away neatly. On the back of the tray table there was an eurowings advertisement. In the seat pocket, there was a safety card, menu, magazine, and a COVID insurance flyer. The sickness bag had some jokes printed on it, which I found hilarious. There were personal air vents on the overhead panel, though the reading lights looked a bit outdated.
During pushback, I spotted the newly painted BVB09 livery, not realizing I would fly on that same aircraft in summer 2023! The safety demonstration was done manually by the crew. After takeoff, I tried to connect to the Wi-Fi, but it wasn’t working on this flight. Since it was only about 50 minutes long and I had already eaten, I didn’t buy anything onboard. Despite the delay, we landed almost on time, and I was even spotted by someone from the ground, which was cool to see from another perspective!
Overall, it was a smooth and uneventful flight with Eurowings on their A319. The crew was friendly, though there wasn’t much interaction. I paid €85, including the larger cabin bag — not too bad, though Eurowings isn’t exactly cheap for a low-cost airline.
Many travelers describe Eurowings as an “expensive low-cost airline.”
